Catawba Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414 Technical Specification Amendment Unit 1 Cycle 6 Reload Gentlemen:

Attached are changes to the Catawba Nuclear Station Technical Specifications which will be required for operation of Catawba Unit 1 Cycle 6.

As a result of Duke Power's decision to open reload contracts for competit!ve bidding, the reload fuel for Catawba Unit 1 Cycle 6 will be supplied by the B&W Fuel Company. This letter transmits the changes to the Catawba Nuclear Station Technical Specifications (TS) necessary to suppori; oparation with reload fuel supplied by B&W, along- with several administrative changes.

The administrative changes are addressed in order, along with the technical changes to the TS. The applicable TS Bases have been modified to reflect the proposed changes to TS.

The following are attached:

1) Marked up TS and Bases pages (See Attachment 1)
2) Technical Justification and No Significant lia.sards Analysis for the TS changes (See Attachment 2)
3) Unit 1 Cycle 6 Reload Report-(Sec Attachment 3)

It is requested that this submittal receive timely review and approval in order to neet the schedule for the Catawba- Unit 1, Cycle 6 startup.

Startup is currently scheduled for June 1, 1991.
