In a letter dated February 3,1984 (NLS 84 002), Carolina Power 6 Light Company conunitted to reduce t.he safe working load for slings by 15% to account for maxirmen dynamic loading.

The purpose of this letter is to inform the Staff of a revision to this conunitment under the provisions of 10 CPR 50.59.

Rather than the 15% reduction, CP6L will limit the safe working load for slings to the manuincturer's prescribed safe working loads for normal usage, as defined in ANSI B30.9, Section 9.9.1, Operating Practices, and ANSI B30.2, Section 2.3.2, operations.

Additional dynamic loading will be considered when the intended use is in excess of what constitutes normal usage.

Engineering Evaluation Report (EER) No. 89 0180, Revision 0, " Justification to Remove 15%

Reduction of Safe Working Load for Rigging," will be maintained as part of the 10 CFR 50.59 documentation and the Brunswick Updated FSAR will be revised accordingly as part of the 1991 annual update.
