Dear Mr. Keppler:
On June 22, 1982 Mr. T. D. Geib of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc.
(PSI) notified your office of a potentially reportable item as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e). The primary civil contractor, Newberg-Marble Hill (NMH) was utilizing the structural steel fabricator's detail drawings for erection and inspection of structural steel. This fabricator had gone out of business and no longer reviewed the architect-engineer's, Sargent & Lundy, drawings for design changes or conflicts. The NMH quality assurance program did not provide for this review and the potential therefore exists that a number of design changes may not be shown on detail drawings used by NMH production and inspection personnel to erect structural steel.
PSI has instructed NMH to review the detail drawings against Sargent &
Lundy's design drawings for revisions and potential conflicts during future con struction activities. PSI has also instructed Sargent & Lundy to review the detail drawings against their design drawings and advise PSI of any changes that might be necessary to bring the previously erected structural steel into conformance with the plant design.
This letter is intended to fulfill the requirements of an interim report as defined in 10 CFR 50.55(e). A further report will be filed on or before February 11, 1983. If you have any questions on this report, please feel free tt, .ontact me.
