McGuiro Nuclear Station NPDES Permit NC0024392 Excoodance of pH Limit File:

Dear Mr. Gleason:
Pursuant to Part II, Section D (6)(d) of the subject permit, this is a follow-up written report for a recent noncomplianco at the McGuiro Nuclear Station.
The initial notification was made to Mr.
Mike Parker on January 7, 1993, by Wrma Atherton of Duke Power Company.
On January 7th, it was discovered that the pH value for the discharge from the conventional waste treatment system (Outfall 002) was 9.3.
The duration of this exceedance was 1.5 hours5.787037e-5 days
0.00139 hours
8.267196e-6 weeks
1.9025e-6 months
.
The reason for this occurrenco was due to a malfunction of a switch that would have terminated the dischargo flow from the pond under low flow conditions.
In the interim while the switch is being repaired, administrative controls are being used in its place.
There was no environmental impact to the receiving waters as a result of this incident.
If you should need additional information or have questions, please contact Norma Atherton at (704) 875-5963.
Sincerely,
)ter n+ XY, Cl}f-At-t$E%
