November 30, 1990 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, D.C. 20555

Subject:

Catawbc Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414 NRC Inspecti m Report No. 50-413, 414/90-17 Violation 411/90-17 Request for Commitment Date Extension Gentlemen:

Violation 413/90-17 was cited for failure to follow procedure resulting in the diversion of 5,000 gallons of reactor coolant to the Refueling Water Storage Tank. My response to Violation 413/90-17 dated August. 22, 1990 stated a fully documented Westinghouse evaluation will be completed with respect to Pressurizer cooldown/heatup by December 1, 1990 (Sectio..

4.d). Due to price negot.iations between Westinghouse and the contractors, a suitable proposal was not obtained until October, 1990.

The analysis is expected to take approximately 9-10 weeks to complete.

An extension of the commitment date to May 1, 1991 is requested.

Very truly yours,
