Subject:

McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Supplemental Response #4 to NRC Generic Letter 89-13, Service Water System Problems Affecting Safety-Related Equipment This is the fourth Supplemental Response to NRC Generic Letter 89-13, Service Water System Problems Affecting Safety-related Equipment.

The first supplemental response dated November 19, 1990 provided a schedule for completing modifications required to flush infrequently used cooling loops.

The second supplemental response dated May 13, 1992 provided a revised schedule for these modifications and addressed elements of the Surveillance and Control, Test Program, Inspection and Maintenance Program, Confirmation of Licensing Basis and Procedures and Training actions of the Generic Letter.

The third supplemental response dated July 14, 1993 updated the schedule provided in the second Supplement and addressed elements of the Surveillance and Control, Inspection and Maintenance Program and Confirmation of Licensing Basis actions of the Generic Letter.

This Supplement updates the schedule provided in the third Supplement and addresses elements of the Surveillance and Control action of the Generic Letter.

I MODIFICATIONS TO ALLOW FLUSHING OF ASSURED MAKE-UP PIPING Spent Fuel Pool Cooling system modifications have been cancelled.

The piping layout for both trains on both Units are not conducive to fouling and/or restriction.

These stagnant branch lines rise vertically from a horizontal RN supply header significantly limiting the possibility of silt and debris accumulation.

The branch line check valve will be opened on a periodic basis to allow inspection of the upstream and downstream piping.
