Dear Sir:

On December 5,1973, a report was made under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e) concerning discrepancies between the materials supplied by the vendor for diesel generator battery racks and 'raterial specified for the racks in the vendor's seismic calculations.

In accordance with the reporting requirements of 10CFR21, the following infomation is sutruitted:

Description of defect, deficiency, or failure to cceply:

When reordering a structural member for the racks that had been scarred by battery acid during clant construction, one of the A-E's engineers noticed that some of the structural mesters sucolfec by the vendor were different from those used in the vendor's seismic calculaticns.

Similar components, activities, or services:

The racks are similar but not identical to racks used on Unit 1 of the North Anna Power Station.

Corrective action which has been, is being or will be taken, the indi-vidual responsible and the length of time to complete the action:

Colt Industries has determined that the 14 gauge horizontal rack channels supplied are adequate for seismic conditions. Other bracing and wall clips which are inadequate as sucolied will be replaced by field fabricated members in accordance with Colt supolied drawings which confom to Colt's seismic calculations. Colt has approved the A-E's plan to have the site electrical contractor fabricate and in-stall the new members. All work will be completed on the battery racks by December 15, 1978.

Since no other actions will be reouired to make the battery racks confom to seismic requirements as specified by Colt Industries, we consider this to be the final report under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e)(3).
