ENCLOSURE SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 SEISMIC QUALIFICATION OF ELECTRICAL PENETRATIONS NOT FULLY DOCUMENTED NCR 78-5 FINAL REPORT l

Description of Deficienev 1

The electrical penetration seismic qualification was acceptable at I

the time the contract was accepted.

Documentation was available to l

demonstrate this.

However, the documentation was not complete enough to ensure the penetrations would withstand seismic activity in accordance with recent, more stringent TVA criteria.

Safety Implications l

l Examination of additional seismic test data has shown that the penetrations, as they are presently constructed, will withstand all design loadings.

Therefore had the deficiency gone uncorrected, it would not have adversely affected the safe cperation of the plant during its lifetime.

Corrective Action Comparison of additional Westinghouse seismic test data by the l

TVA Civil Engineering Branch against current TVA seismic criteria has shown that the penetrations, as they are presently constructed, i

will withstand all their design loadings.

Therefore no changes in hardware are required.
