U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Consission Region II Docket No. 50-339 101 Marietta Street, Suite 3100 v

Atlanta, Georgia 30303

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

Under the provisions of 10CFRSO.55(e). NRC Region II was informed on Jene 19, 1978, that some seismically nmqualified Agastat add-on contacts were bein'g used'in tha' Auxiliary Feedwater Pump and the Component Cooling Ptap con-trol circuits at North Anna Unit 2.

Our final report on this item was sent to the Commission on July 18,1978 (letter to Mr. James P. O'Reilly, Serial No.

395).

We have now discovered that seismically nonqualified Agastat add-on contacts have also been utilized in the control circuits for the mdundant l

motor operated valves in the piping which connects the Chemical Addition Tank to the Refueling Water Storage Tank on North Anna Unit 2.

A re-evaluation of the control circuitry for the two motor operated valves has resulted in a re-vised circuit design which eliminates the nonqualified Agastat contacts.

The discovery of the nonqualified contacts in the M)V circuits was made by Stone & Webster Engineering during a study conducted to locata any such contacts in Category I circuits in North Anna Unit 2.

Stone & Webster has provided Vepco with writtan confirmation that their search is now com-p1;;ts and no other nonqualified Agastat contacts exist in safety m1ated circuits in Unit 2.

Very truly yours, jk i
