Reference:
- NRC letter to TVA dated July 5, 1990, " Generic Letter 89-06 on-the Safety Parameter. Display System-(MPA F-072) i (TAC Nos. 73707/73708):- Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Units.1 and 2" As requested.in the referenced letter, TVA: has reviewed the plan' for SQN to (1) perform an evaluation to-increase the reliability of the.SPDS, and-(2) modify the units and setpoints in the SPDS-to be consistent with emergency'-
operating instructions and main control room instrumentation.- As a result of the review, the required reliability _ improvements and unit and setpointi modifications will be made before restart from the Cycle 5' refueling outage j
for each unit.
I To improve reliability, TVA currently plans to (l) replace the Technical Support Center computer central processing unit,-(2) replace the computer-: disk _.
drives; and (3) install a Megatape subsystem for backups'and software updates. TVA has already installed availability software'inEthe. system to monitor availability-of the display generators, remote multiplexors, and the l
central processing unit.
Improvements have also been made.for Unit 1 in-bypassed and inoperable status instrumentation-(BISI) points; analog-multiplexor input cards; and hardware and software-for various postaccident monitors, radiation monitors, and several displays..These same changes are scheduled for Unit ~2 during the Cycle 4 refueling outage.
A summary statement of the commitments' contained in this' submittal is provided in the enclosure.
