The. Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988 (P.L. 100 418) recently enacted by the Congress and signed into law by the.

l President changed the name of the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Under the Act, all activities,-responsibilities and of obligations of NBS were transferred to NIST.

The designation of the reactor will continue to be "NBSR".
