UCS/NIPIRG MOTION TO DIRECT STAFF TO RESCHEDULE MEETING u

Attached is a notice of a meeting on October 13, 1982 called by the NRC Staff with Consolidated Edison, PASNY, SANDIA, and NRC Staff. Although the meeting notice is dated September 15, we did not receive it until today, October 7, 1982. Tha meeting is to discuss SANDIA's preliminary evaluation of the Indian Point proba-bilistic risk assessment. It is to be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

As the Board is well aware, the question of accident proba-bilistics has been made a central one in these hearings. Indeed, by its latent order, the Board has made discussion of the SANDIA report mandatory for the Staff and Licensees. UCS/NYPIRG intend to use the SANDIA report for the discussion of accident probabil-istics which we are required to make and intend to examine the witnesses on that report. We therefore have a great interest in attending this meeting. However, we are unable to attend a meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico; We cannot afford the ergense and cannot spare the time necessary to send the appropriate people across the

country. Moreover, since Con Ed and PASNf are in New York and the NRC is in Washington, one must question whether the meeting has not been scheduled in New Mexico with the intention of excluding the Intervenors.

Therefore, UCS/NYPIRG moves the Board to direct the Staff to reschedule this meeting in either Washington or New York.

Respectfully submitted, 7h s I
