Dear Sir:
The NRC was notified of a potentially repos uble deficiency in the referenced telephone conversation. At that time, it was estimated that a determination of reportablilty would be made within thirty (30) days.
Due to the extensive investigation and evaluation required, an Interim Report is attached.
It is now expected that this information will be finalized by November 17, 1982, at which time a complete report will be submitted.

I.
POTENTIAL PROBLEM A review of_ Combustion Engineering (CE) letter V-CE-6506 dated l
May 28, 1982, indicated motor operators for CE Tag Number SIC-UV-653 and SID-UV-654 were supplied with "outside-cortainment" motor operators instead cf qualified ".inside-containment operators".
l This error is attributed to the valve manufacturer Borg-Warner Corporation. This condition was not detected by CE prior to turning Unit 1 Sybsystem 1-SI-07 over to APS for preoperational testing.
II.
APPROACH TO AND STATUS OF PROPOSED RESOLUTION Bechtel is currently corresponding with CE to disposition this iten.
The subject motor operators are being returned to Borg-Warner for modification.
j III. PROJECTED COMPLETION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION AND SUBMIITAL OF THE FINAL REFORT l
Evaluation of this condition and submittal of the Final Report is forecast to be completed by November 17, 1982.
