Dear Sir:
The NRC was notified of a potentially reportable deficiency in the referenced telephone conversation. At that time, it was estimated that a determination of reportability would be made within thirty (30) days.
Due to the extensive investigation and evaluation required, an Interim Report is attached.
It is now expected that this information will be finalized by December 7,1982, at which time a complete report will be submitted.

INTERIM REPORT - DER 82-44 POTENTIAL REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY

POTENTIAL PROBLEN QC surveillance and random inspection of Unit 3 480V load centers indicated there may be deficiencies with the wiring terminations completed by Gould Brown Boveri. Inspection of the AMP lug termina-tions revealed the following visual item:
Random inspection of eight (8) compartments in four (4) load centers at the Control Building, Elevation 100', revealed terminal blocks with conductors less than flush with lug connector barrel. The conductors were not visible with -
magnification and high intensity light.
This condition is not indicative of open circuits, but a review of the condition is being made to evaluate compliance with applicable visual acceptance standards.

APPROACH TO AND STATUS OF PROPOSED RESOLUTION Bechtel is currently pursuing this matter with Gould Brown Boveri to establish appropriate inspection criteria for crimped terminations, and to assist in dispositioning this item.
III. PROJECTED COMPLETION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION AND SUBMITTAL OF THE FINAL REPORT Evaluation of this condition and submittal of the Final Report is forecast to be completed by December 7, 1982.
