Dear Sir:
I
{
The NRC was notified of a potentially reportable deficiency in the referenced telephone conversation. At that time, it was estimated j
that a determination of reportability would be made within thirty (30) days, s
Due to the extensive investigation and evaluation required, an Interim Report is attached.
It is now expected that this information will be finalized by November 22, 1982, at which time a complete report will be submitted.

INTERIM REPORT - DER 82-40 POTENTIAL REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY ARIZONA PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY (APS)
I.
POTENTIAL PROBLEM APS generic test procedure for molded case circuit breakers, EG-206, Rev.1, Section 2.2 requires that the circuit breaker magnetic overloads provide an instantaneous trip upon application of current equal to the magnetic trip setting of the breaker as outlined in Section 8.0, and Exhibit A.
Allowable test tolerance shall be t 20 percent.
During a review of test records by APS, it was found that the tested trip currents are below the allowable tolerance of 120 percent of the adjustable magnetic trip setting for the following molded case circuit breakers in Class IE instrument AC power (system PN-01).
