< ADDITION TO WELD PROCEDURE OUALIFICATION
- 1) The fracture locations of the welded tensile specimens had occurred in the SA-516 GR 70 base material.
- 2) Only one of the four (4) bend specimens had exhibited any cracking. This cracking hcd occurred in the weld metal and was found to be less than the limits (1/8" maximum) of the applicable ASME Specifications.
- 3) The sample of the weld, heat affected zone, and stainless base metal, when tested in accordance with the procedure outlined in ASTM-A-262 Practice A, revealed a metallurgical structure acceptable per the referenced specifi-cation. This structure consisted of primarily a step type microstructure containing a small amount of non-interconnected grain boundary ditching.
Additionally, the weld was found to be free of ' any interdendritic ditching. i p Respectfully Subrr' N DURKEE i ST .G ABOR ATORIES METALLURGIST /
