[External_Sender] FW: Communication to the NRC on Typo in Farley RV ISI Relief Request

Shawn, The purpose of this email is to notify the NRC of an editorial error related to a 2016 Farley submittal. SNC was recently made aware of a typographical error related to the Unit 1 2016 Farley Alternative FNP-ISI-ALT-17 to allow an extension from 10 years to 20 years between IWB-2412 exams for volumetric exam of 100% of reactor vessel (RV) pressure retaining welds in Table IWB-2500-1. The NRC provided a safety evaluation (ML16013A348) for this alternative on Feb. 1, 2016.

An editorial error was included in Table 3, Details of the Through Wall Cracking Frequency (TWCF), of the Farley submittal from July 17, 2015 (ML15198A155) in the Outputs section, DT30(°F) column. The values for RTMAX-XX were inadvertently pasted into this column instead of the correct DT30(°F) values. Farley obtained support from the PWROG to perform these calculations. The PWROG has communicated to SNC that the basis calculations were re-checked, and it was confirmed that the correct values were used, the final TWCF values are unaffected, and this error is purely editorial. The NRCs safety evaluation, which states that the NRC performed independent TWCF calculations using Table 3 inputs and arrived at valued nearly the same as those in the Farley Alternative, provides additional validation that this error is editorial in nature. Westinghouse will provide an official communication to Farley after their records are finalized to close this issue.

As this editorial error did not affect the basis of the NRC safety evaluation, SNC considers this notification sufficient and this item closed.

Please let me know if the staff has any further questions.

Thanks, Wes.
