McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Inservice Testing Plan (IST)
Second Interval plans for Units 1 and 2 Relief Request 94-01
Dear Sir:
The Commercial Service Date for McGuire Nuclear Station, Unit 2 is March 1, 1984.
As specified by Section XI of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, the first interval for Unit 2 is from March 1, 1984 to March 1, 1994.
In accordance with 10CFR50.55a(f)(4)(ii), the IST program plan for Unit 2 shall be revised to comply with the requirements of the latest edition and addenda of the Code incorporated by reference in 100FR50.55a(b)(2) twelve months prior to the start of the second inspection interval.
The.
1989 edition of the Code was the latest ed.itisr that was referenced by paragraph (b) of 10CFR50.55a.
Pursuant to the requi.rements of 10CFT50.55a, please find attached (Attachment 1) a copy of revision 15 to the McGuire Pump and Valve IST Program Manual for Unit 2 to be used during the second interval In accordance with the requirements of 10C7R50.55a(f), the.TST plan for Unit 2 will be performed in accordance 'ith the 1989 edition of the ASME Section XI Code.
In addition, please find attached (Attachment 2) a copy of revision 20 to the McGuire Pump and Valve '.ST Program Manual for Unit 1 to be used during the second interval.
The IST program plan for the second interval for Unit 1 was originally submitted to the NRC for review by a letter dated f
October 12, 1992.
Subsequently, a safety evaluation (SE) of the Unit 1 IST program plan was prepared by the NRC staff and was transmitted to Duke Power Company (DPC) by a letter dated October 12, 1993.

6 As suggested within the October 12, 1993 NRC letter, the Unit 1 IST program plan has been updated to comply with the 1989 edition of ASME Section XI.
This action is in accordance with the requirements of 10CFR50.55a(f)(4)(iv),
r whereby portions of editions or addenda may be;used that have been incorporated by reference in paragraph (b) of 10CFR50.55a provided that'all related. requirements of the respective editions or addenda are met.
The updated Unit 1 IST program plan, as well as the Unit 2 IST. program plan, met the requirements set forth in ASME Operations and Maintenance Standards Part 6 (OM-6) and Part 10 (OM-10).
Included within the Unit 1 and Unit 2 IST program plans provided by this letter are requests for relief from certain pump and valve test requirements that have been determined to be impractical.
Specifically, sections I.3, 1.4, II.5 e
and II.6 of the McGuire Pump and Valve IST program manuals j
for Units 1 and 2 provide the relief requests.
