INTERIM REPORT - DER 82-37 POTENTIAL REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY ARIZONA PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY (APS)
PVNGS UNIT 2 I.
POTENTIAL PROBLEM The operating pressures of hydraulic crimping tools used for electrical terminations were checked in accordance with the AMP Customer Manual (CM 1950) which establishes that the pressure switch should be adjusted between 8,000 and 8,400 PSI, and preventive maintenance should be performed.
As requested by an NRC inquiry, these units were checked and the following data was obtained:
One unit found to be operating between 4,500 and 5,000 PSI.
No maintenance program exists to provide periodic maintenance for the (22) AMP hydraulic crimp units on the jobsite.
Hydraulic pump units are not serialized for traceability.
Hydraulic pumps are used in conjunction with electrical crimping tools used on wire sizes 2/0 to 800 MCM for Class IE and Non-IE terminations.
II.
APPROACH TO AND STATUS OF PROPOSED RESOLUTION Bechtel engineering is corresponding with AMP Special Industries to disposition this condition.
III.
PROJECTED COMPLETION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION AND SUBMITTAL OF THE FINAL REPORT i
Evaluation of this condition and submittal of the Final Report is forecast to be completed by October 21, 1982
