Dear Mr. flyers:
0 ELD 018E
Subject:
Request for Additional Infomation - Skagit/Hanford fluclear Project On June 8,1982, we forUarded a request for additional infomation and a staff position (RSP 231.5) relating to the need for a definitive integrated study within five niles of the site.
In a meeting with the i!RC staff on July 8 and 9,1982, your representatives provided an extensive presentation and discussion of the results of that study. Although the staff did not reach a conclusion on the acceptataity of that study,it agreed to advise you of its conclusions by about July 16, 1982. On July 16, 1982, the staff telephoned your representatives to advise that the staff had detemined that sone additional investigations are required in one area for which there is not sufficient infomation to confim the presence or absence of a potentially hazardous geologic structure. Our request for additional infomation is attached.
Your representatives met with the staff on July 21, 1982, to present a proposed progran for obtaining the additional information outlined in the enclosure.
Although staf f connents indicated a potential for extension of the proposed programs, depending on the outcore of the investigation, the staff agreed that the progran as proposed was generally responsive to the infomation request.
As stated in the nceting, the staff will be available for review of intemediat.e results throughout the investigation.
The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements contained in this letter affect fewer than ten respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required under P.L.96-511.
Sincerely, Thonas M. flovak, Assistant Director for Licensing 8208130329 820804 vision of Ucensing PDR ADOCK 05000522 A

SKAGIT/HANFORD NUCLEAR PROJECT UNITS 1 AND 2 PUGET SOUND POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY DOCKET N05. 50-522 AND 50-523 231.14 The applicant will conduct a core boring program of sufficient scope to determine if the May Junction monocline is fault controlled.
If fault controlled, this program should provide sufficient new subsurface evidence demonstrating that the fault is not capable.
This may include other subsurface techniques and information to supplement the core borings.
This program should be of sufficient scope to define the attitude, sense of movement and age of last movement of the fault and be designed to carefully recover and define the overlying formations in this area.
231.15 Provide a table and/or other device showing the relationship between the various site area lithologies and velocities (downhole, crosshole and refraction).
