PROJECT, UNITS 1 AND 2 This letter is in regard to the establishment of a schedule for the safety review of your application for operating licenses for the South Texas Project, Units 1 and 2 docketed on July 17, 1978. You were notified of the schedule for the environmental review of your application by our letter of October 6,1978.

l We have evaluated our workload, and based on this evaluation we estimate the Prospective Decision Date to be June 26, 1981. A summary 1

of the more important milestones is provided as an enclosure for your information and review.

It should be realized that the enclosed dates are target milestones which may require some changes as the review proceeds. While we wiil not formally inform you, by letter, of minor changes to the schedule, we will confirm, in writing, significant changes to the schedule.

Any matters of disagreement or areas of uncertainty which might arise during the course of the review of your application should be discussed promptly witn the project manager. If he cannot resolve them himself, l

he will arrange for a meeting with appropriate management to discuss i

them. This will avoid unnecessary schedule delays.
