Fire Prctection Equi;=ent Outage Docket No. 05000285 This special report is submitted pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specifications 2.19.k.a(ii) and 5.9.3.1.
Electric Fire P=p FP-1A was re=cved frc= service on Cetober 16, 1978. The initial outage of the electric fire pu=p was for "A" cell suction screen =aintenance and circulating water pu=p maintenance and not electric fire pump =aintenance, f
Cbservations of the sand depositien around the electric fire pu=p suction during the planned cell =aintenance prc=pted the C=aha Public
' Power District to proceed with a previcusly proposed =cdification to the suction of the electric fire pump.
"'his suction =cdification (Design Change Request 77-32) provided for an extensien of the elec-tric fire pu=p suction into an area of the cell where sand buildup is less likely to ec -
' e sucticn modificatien was ce=pleted and the cell retur ed to service en Neve=ber 3, 1978. The electric fire ;=p vas also returned to service and successfully tested per the weekly fire syste= surveillance test.
Curing the cutage of the electric fire pu=p the diesel driven fire p=p re=ained operable.
~he availability of the diesel driven fire p=p ensured a scurce of fire suppressien water at the Fert Calheun Station.
