Dear Mr. Keppler:
In accordance with References (1) and (2) this letter serves as the notification by the Special Report required when the fire suppression water system is inoperable.
The internal portion of the fire suppression water system was removed from service on July 26, 1982 in order to replace fire hose cabinets, so that the 1-1/2 inch fire hoses installed per NRC requirement will properly fit inside the cabinets. The external fire suppression water flow path to the yard hydrants and the two diesel driven High Pressure Service Water (HPSW) Pumps remained operable.
Hoses were laid from the yard hydrants to areas inside the plant to provide backup fire suppression capability prior to removing the internal portion of the system from service.
The plant is currently in a refueling outage, which commenced April 9,
1982.
The telephone notification of the removal from service was made to L. Reyes, U.
S.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region III, at 0830 on July 26, 1982 by L. Goodman.
