(A) 10CFR50.55(e) Deficiency Report Telephone call of August 25, 1978 to NRC Region III (B) Interim Status Report EF2-44,160 dated September 25, 1978 Pursuant to the provisions of 10CFR50.55 (e) (3) this interim report is being filed as an official follow-up to Reference (A) concerning cracks which were found in the impellers of two(2) core spray pumps.

On September 29, 1978, a Byron-Jackson Company representative along with Edison Engineering and the General Electric (G.E.) personnel inspected the subject pump impellers.

Detroit Edison is awaiting G. E. Engineering disposition of Field Deviation l

Disposition Request (FDDR) No. KHI-095, which was written on September 11, 1978 to document the nonconformance. G.E. has agreed to provide Detroit Edison with a report stating their evaluation as to whether or not pump failure would have occurred during operation as a result of the cracks.

If at that time, we determine it not be reportable under 50.55(e), we will notify your office.
