Mr. D. L. Renberger Assistant Director, Technology Washington Public Power Supply System 3000 George Washington Way P. O. Box 968 Richland, Washington 99352
Dear Mr. Renberger:
SUBJECT:
TECHNICAL MEETING WITH WPPSS TO DISCUSS THE PRESENT STATUS 0F THE WNP-2 Kr.RK II DYNAMIC POOL LOADS We have received your letter of October 19, 1978, in which you propose the agenda for a technical meeting with members of the Containment Systems Branch (CSB) to discuss the present status of the Mark II dynamic pool loads for the WNP-2 facility.
In your letter, you indicate that the l
primary topic to be discussed at this forthcoming meeting will be your proposed forcing function to represent the chugging loads.
It is our understanding from the discussion we held with you on October 10th and from the content of your October 19th letter, that your proposed analytical chugging model is unique to your docket and differs from the chugging model proposed by the Mark II Owners Group for their Intermediate Program.
As we discussed on October 20ch in a telephone conversation with Mr. Cockrell of the WPPSS organization, we are unable to meet with you on the specific date which you requested. We do anticipate that we will be able to meet with C'
you early in November.
During the intervening time period, we will be evaluating our manpower and resources in light of the exceptions taken by the three lead plants to the acceptance criteria for dynamic pool loads which we issued in September 1978. Following this evaluation of our resources, we will then be better able to evaluate the impact of your proposed unique model for chugging loads on your licensing review schedule.
Sincerely, N
Roger S. Boyd, rector Division of Project Management Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation ec: See next page
