A special safety inspection was conducted by Mr. C. Conklin of this office on October 1011,
1990 at your Maine Yankee Nuclear Power Plant, Wiseasset, Maine. Discussions of our findings -

were presented by Mr. Conklin to Mr. R. Blackmore and other members of your staff at the
'
conclusion of the inspection.
The area examined during this inspection was limited to the observation of a remedial exercise
conducted on October 10,1990 as described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report which
is enclosed with this letter. Within this area, the inspection consisted of selected examination
i
of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observation of the
remedial exercise by the inspector.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were identified. Maine Yankee Atomic Power
,
Company's performance during the remedial exercise demonstrated the ability to implement
the Emergency Plan and Emergency Plan implementing Procedures in a manner that would
provide adequate protective measures for the health and safety of the public.
