The Perkins Nucicar Station site is located in Davic County, North Carolina ad-Jacent to the Yadkin River. Population within 50 miles of the plant site is

. 5 m i l l i o n .* Population within five miles of the plant site Is 4517 The closest population center, Vins ton-Salem, North Carolina, is 17 miles north-northeast of the plant site. Development of the site requires the construction of an 1100 acre lake at full pond elevation 740 feet msl. Average flow at the plant site is 2880 cfs from its drainage area of 2280 square miles. Full pond volume for the proposed reservoir is approximately 30,280 acre-feet.

The use of cooling towers at this site may require 2.4 percen,t of the average streamflow*of the river and as much as 32,500 acre-feet of Impounded water dur-Ing a recurrence of the historic drought.

Deveiopment of the site requires the constru'etion of a 6.1 mile access railroad and 8.2 miles of 230 kV and 7.9 miles of 525 kV transmission lines. Prior to site acquisition, Duke owned no land required for site devel.opment. Yard grade at elevation 710 feet mst will require excavations approaching 50 feet and will require extensive earthwork.
