DPR-71 & DPR 62 LICENSED OPERATOR REQUALIFICATION EXAMINATIONS Gentlemen:
During the weeks of April 30 and May 7,1990, the Nuclear. Regulatory Commission administered licensed operator requalification (LOR) examinations.-
at the Brunswick' Steam Electric Plant. These examinations resulted.in a total 1
of fourteen failures by the NRC:and/or CP&L evaluators.. Since'those; initial.
j LOR examinations, subsequent examinations. by the NRC have resulted in four of i
those individuals successfully completing LOR' requirements (see Enclosure).

NUREG-1021,. Revision 6,,ES 605(C) states "the second NRC administered:
j examination will usually be administered within six months of the initial-1 failure notification....".
Five of the. remaining ten licensed individuals are-currently scheduled to be re-examined during the week of October 15, 1990, and one individual has left the Company, thus not requiring-re-examination.
Carolina Power & Light Company has determined that the remaining four licensed personnel that will not have had the second NRC-administered examinsP. ion will i
not be completely remediated to support re-examination by.the.NRC within the nominal six month time frame. As such,_CP&L is deferring re-examination of j

these personnel until the next LOR examinations, currently scheduled for 3
April 1991, 1
