REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ON LIMESTONE QUARRY NEAR BRUNSWICK STEAM '

ELECTRIC PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. M88031 AND M88032)

The NRC has recently learned that Martin Mariatta Aggregates has submitted a request for a permit to operate a limestone quarry about 3 miles from the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Units 1 and 2 'aSEP). On October. 25, 1993, Mr. Robert Godley of your staff informed the nr.., that the Carolina Power & .i Light Company (CP&L) staff is reviewing a report, provided to CP&' Dy Martin 1 Marietta Aggregates, that discusse, the impact on the surrounding area from its proposed operations at the quarry.

As a part of your application for a cot .truction permit- and operating license for BSEr, CP&L's staff analyzed th effects of the environment on the plant, including those of the nearby industrial facilities, transportation, and military facilities. ~You are requested to ensure that the bases as set forth

-in your Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR), which supported the NRC staff's uation Report, remain valid. You should conclusions advise the NRC itsofFinal Safety to any change Eva}he external hazards analysis, which was reviewed when granting the operkiing license, so that a determination can be made whether 'the're is any adverse impact on the safe oporation of the plant. .
