By letter dated January 26, 1990 (NRC-90-0013), Detroit Edison. Company'(Deco) j responded to-NRC Bulletin 89-02 concerning certain swing check valve.c which i may contain preload bolting material of ASfM Specification A193, prade-B6, ,

type-410 stainless steel. The subject bulletin requested Detroit idison Company (DECO) to identify whether any swing. check valves which ma,' contain  !

type-410 stainless steel bolting material were installed at Fe:m' .a .vour- '

response confirmed that the inspections requested by the subject P.11etin had 4

bei. ?erformed and these inspections indicated that no such check vi ves were installed at Fermi-2. In addition, your response stated that the ma ufacturers  ;

The staff recommends that the analysis prepared in resoonse to-the bulletin be kept on file for further review by NRC inspectors.

By letter dated Jant:ary 26, 1990 (NRC-90-0013), Detroit Edison Company (Deco) responded to NRC Bulletin 89-02 concerning certain swing check valves which may contain preload bolting material of ASTM Specification A193, grade B6, type-410 stainless stc0 The subject bulletin requested Detroit Edison Company (DECO) to identiiy whether any swing check valves which may contain

( type-410 stainless steel bolting material were installed at Fermi-2. Your'  ;

response confirmed that the inspections requested by the subject bulletin had been performed and these in g 5. ions indicated that no such check valves were installed at Fermi-2. In addition, your response stated that the manufacturers of other safety related check valves were consulted and their documents reviewed.

None of these manufacturers used preload type-410 stainless steel bolting material in their check valves supplied to Fermi-2.

The staff has reviewed your response to Bulletin 89-02 and findi, your response has met all the requirements of the bulletin. Therefore, the staff finds your response to Bulletin 89-02 to be acceptabic and no additional actions are required. The staff recommends that the analysis prepared in response to the bulletin be kept on file for further review by NRC inspectors.
