Dear Ms. O'Brien:

1 I am responding to your August 13 -19c0 letter to Chairman Carr.

In your letter you recuested that you and the affected towns be given the factual testimony (anc supportir.g documentation) to be presented by BECO and the NRC :

a staff in advance of'the slanned meeting, and that the Civil Defense Directors,-

l elected officials and ot1er agencies and-committees of the affected towns be given the opportunity to testify.

The meeting you referred to 'is public' and is scheduled on Thursday, September 6, 1990, from 7:00 pm to=11:00 pm at the Sheraton Plymouth Hotel, 130 Water Street, Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Enclosed is a copy of the press release of August 14, 1990, which includes the information'for persons wishing to make a presentation.

There is no testimony-or presentation by the NRC or BECO planned for this -

meeting. The purpose of the meeting is-to gather information that will be used as input to the-next report by the staff to the Commission on the current i

status of offsite emergency preparedness for' Pilgrim Station. Additionally, the public will be given-the opportunity to comment or ask questions. The meeting will be transcribed.

The report to the Comission will be made available to Comonwealth and local emergency planning officials and copies will be placed in the NRC and local public document rooms for general public access.
