Dear Mr. Berretto:

!!n your letter to me dated August 7,1990, you asked for confirmation that your company fell below the possession limit threshold for having to submit a decommissioning financial assurance instrument.

Under item 8 of your license, you are limited to the possession of certain sealed sources.

Item 18 of your license limits.your possession to total activities under the thresholds specified in 10 CFR 630.35(d).

(The threshold for Co-60 -is 10,000 Ci and the threshold for Cs-137 is 100,000 C1.

Note that there is no limit for Ir-192 since its half-life is less than 120 days. A partial fractions rule also applies to multiple nuclides possessed.)

Item 18 of your license was addressed in the letter dated February 12, 1990, in which Amendment 57 was transmitted to you. Based on the possession limits

> in your license and your possession of approximately 200 1.75 C1 Cs-137=

sources, you would not need to provide financial assurance for decommissioning.
