OF MEETING WITH YANKEE R0WE CONCERT lING YANKEE R0WE'S REACTOR VESSEL SUBMITTAL i
m Yankee Atomic Electric Company (Yankee) management and staff met with NRR and Research on Tuesday July 17, 1990, at 9:00 a.m. to discuss reactor vessel evaluations.. The purpose of the meeting was to have a question and answer session concerning the Yankee Rowe Reactor Vessel submittal of July 9,1990.
That submittal has been under review by the staff since then. The review is incomplete but several matters have surfaced as follows:
m 1.
Details the staff is seeking about the nickel and copper composition of the Reactor Vessel is not presently available. The amount of copper and. nickel is very influential on the RTNDT.
2.
Other applicable accident scenarios may need to be covered by the-Yankee Rowe PRA analysis. There is a significant possibility that vessel failure would not result from initiating events but from some other event (for instance during modes 4, 5 or 6).
3.
The need for an expedited Yankee Rowe schedule to inspect vessel beltline and take material samples.
4.
.The staff believes the RTNDT reported by Yankee Rowe is too low, and a series of bounding calculations is necessary.
