Cracked Studs on No. 12 Recire Pump l
l On April 5,1974, a surface crack was discovered on one of the ten stuffing box holddown cover studs for the Ib.12 Recin: Pu:zo. Ultrasonic examination

revealed significant internal defects in all of the ramamirig studs.
- nte cause of the failures is believed to be due to a misapplication of a torque nultiplier dur2ng prior maintenance. Investigation of the problan is continuing.
