SUBJECT:
PLANNED PUBLIC' MEETING TO DISCUSS BWR MOTOR-0PEiSTED CONTAINMENT. ISOLATION VALVES The-NRC staff will hold a'p(ublic meeting with the Regulatory Response Grou the Boiling Water Reactnr BWR) Owners' Group on August 1, 1990, to discuss the~ capability of the motor-operated valves (MOVs) intended to provide-containment isolation in the steam supply lines of the High Pressure Coolant
-Injection and Reactor Core Isolation Cooling systems'and in the supply line of

the Reactor Water Cleanup System to perform their design-basis functions.
In a telephone conference on July 24 with representatives of the BWR Owners' Group, I agreed to transmit a description of the criteria used to evaluate the
. capability of those MOVs~and the tables ind cat ng t e motor, ac ua or, and i

t t Ltorque switch settings at issue.
It was also agreed that we would specify areas to be addressed by the BWR'0wners' Group at the meeting.
I have transmitted the requested information to the BWR Owners' Group.
