R3 Bulletins 73-3 and 74-3 and a letter from Danald J. Skovholt, Assistant Director for Ocerating Reactors, sunmriced backy'ound infon::ation on defective hydraulic shock suppressors (snubbers) and described required inspection programs. It has come to our attention that oil addition fittings (e.g., Alemite fitting) used on snubbers contain seal raterials t;hich my deteriorate in a high terperature envircrent and cause the loss of hydraulic fluid. Replacerent seals for these fittings rny not normally be included in standard repair kits.
Oil addition fittings should be care 11tlly inspected during future snubber surveillance e_d renewed as appropriate.
