' Additional'Information for Proposed Change 227

Dear Sirs:

j Yankee, in Reference (b), provided the USNRC with modifications to the

)

-Technical Specifications of Yankee Nuclear Power Station to incorporate guidance from Generic Letter 88-17. During our recent discussions, Yankee was requested to provide additional information for the change to Technical Specification 3.10.6.

Technical Specification 3.10.6 addresses reduced level operation with a cold leg opening when the core heat is greater than 500 kilowatts.

This i

specification requires that two High Pressure Safety Injection (HPSI) pumps l

and one Low Pressure Safety Injection (LPSI) pump be operable. Yankee, in addition to the requirements specified in Technical Coecification 3.10.6, will

. administratively require in the appropriate plant opettting procedures that one additional LPSI pump be capable of being placed in an operable status whenever YNPS is utilizing Specification 3.10.6.

Yankee will demonstrate the operability of this additional pump by performing a test similar to that specified in Technical Specification 4.10.6.1.

l We trust that you will find this additional information satisfactory;

-l however, if you have any questions, please contact us.

Very truly yours, i

YANKEE ATOMIC ELECTRIC COMPANY
