Dear Congressman Markey:
-t In keeping with my March 20, 1990- commitment to, provide you l
periodic status reports on the implementation of_-TMI Action'Pl&n items by our licensees, I have enclosed for-your information a copy of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)l staff's 1
September-1990 report to the: Commission on this matter.,This information reflects the NRC staff's most recent' review of i
licensee actions and commitments in this area and is current through July.31, 1990.
i As noted in the last report I. forwarded to you on June 8, 1990, i
the staff has been reconciling differences (n:the implementa-tion status of the Safety Parameter Display System'(SPDS).
The staff has completed the review for all but two units, Farley Units 1 and 2.
Results of the review indicate that the SPDS item at 18 units, previously reported as implemented, should be re-opened to reflect more complete responses by the licensees to Generic Letter 89-06 as further described in the enclosed' report.
Progress continues to be made in the implementation'of the TMI Action Plan.
Since my June 8,.1990 letter, 19 additional items
(
were implemented, and 7 items were formally. closed at Rancho Seco l
and Shoreham because all scheduiar-commitments-for these items have been indefinitely suspended at these facilities.
With the 18 SPDS items now determined as open, the net number of open items has decreased-from 206 to 198 items not currently.
implemented.
In addition, several licensees have provided new estimated dates for completion of pending open items.
The NRC'will continue to monitor closely the licensees' actions i
and commitments.at facilities with unisplemented items.
