20555 Gentlemen:

NUREG-0737 ITEM II.B.3 POST ACCIDENT SAMPLING SYSTEM NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 & 2 This letter is in response to the June 30th request by the NRC for Virginia Electric and Power Company (Vepco) to provide a schedule for preparation of a submittal documenting Vepco's compliance with NUREG-0737 Item II.B.3 Post Accident Sampling System.

A summary discussion of the North Anna Post Accident Sampling System is provided in Revision 3 to Vepco's " Response to NUREG-0737 Post - TMI Requirements" dated June 28, 1982.

Based on our interpretation of the requirements, technical exceptions are specifically stated.

The clarifications provided in your June 30th letter require further investigation or justification of alternatives.

Vepco has joined other utilities with similar post accident sampling systems to form an owners' group, to establish a position concerning those items in question.

This group plans to meet in l

the month of August.

After the owners' group has established a position on these items, we will request a meeting with the NRC to discuss our copmitment.

Subsequent to this meeting, a specific schedule will be prepared to respond to each of the eleven items on this list.

Please advise Vepco should the above information not be satisfactory.

Very truly yours.
