Dear Sir:
The NRC was notified of a potentially reportable deficiency in the referenced telephone conversation.
At that time, it was estimated that a determination of reportability would be made within thirty (30) days.
Due to the extensive investigation and evaluation required, an Interim Report is attached.
It is now expected that this information will be finalized by September 30, 1982, at which time a complete report will be submitted.

INTERIM REPORT - DER 82-29 POTENTIAL REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY ARIZONA PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY (APS)
PVNGS UNITS 2 & 3 1.
Potential Problem
.During the PSE and MT examinations, three piping spools supplied by Pullman Power Products per Purchase Order Specification-13-PM-201 were found to contain material defects as documented in the following Non-Conformance Reports (NCR's):
e NCR PC-4031: Visual examination of spool 3-SG005-S011 (Unit 3 Main Feedwater Line) showed multiple linear indications extending approximately fifty (50) inches from weld WA.
Removal of a linear indication adjacent to weld WB resulted in pipe wall thick-ness of.800 inch;' nominal wall thickness is.937 inch.
Removal of a linear indication adjacent to weld WE exposed a pocket or lamination ik x \\ inch (average) x 1/16 inch deep.
G NCR PC-4047: During PSE of Spool 2EC-064-S018 a linear indication was discovered that runs the full length.

O NCR FY-4059:
During installation of Spool S004 into the Condensate Water Storage Tank, a four (4) inch long linear crack was discovered 0
upstream of weld WOO 3 at 280.. (Unit 2)

Approach To And Status Of Proposed Resolution This material has been segregated and'will not be used. Pullman Power Products has been notified of the conditions _and requested to provide their evaluation. Currently this problem is limited to three spool

Projected Completion of Corrective Action and Submittal of the Final Report Evaluation of.this condition and submittal of the Final Report is Forecast to be completed by September 30, 1982.
