Dear Mr. Keppler:
On June 22, 1982, Mr. T. D. Geib of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc. (PSI) notified your office of a potentially reportable item as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e). The primary civil contractor, Newberg-Marble Hill (NMH) was utilizing the structural steel fabri-cator's drawings for erection and inspection of structural steel.
This fabricator had gone out of business and no longer reviewed the plant designer's drawings for design changes or conflicts.
The NMH quality assurance program did not provide for this review and the potential therefore exists that a number of design changes may not be shown on drawings used by NMH production and inspection personnel to erect structural steel.
PSI has instructed NMH to review the erection drawings against the design drawings for revisions and potential conflicts for future construction activities. PSI is also presently evaluating the impact of this situation on previously erected structural steel.
This letter is intended to fulfill the requirements of an interim report as defined in 10 CFR 50.55(e). A further report will be filed on or before October 22, 1982.
