ISSUANCE OF AMENDMENT NO.143 TO FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NO.

DPR-36, MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER STATION (TAC NO. M86735)

The Commission has issued the enclosed Amendment No. 143 to Facility Operating License No. DPR-36 for the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Station.

This amendment is in respcnse to your application dated June 7,1993, as supplemented on October 1, 1993.

This amendment modifies Technical Specification (TS) 4.6.A, Safety Injection and Containment Spray Systems, to:

1) require quarterly, vice monthly, testing of automatic core floeding and containment spray valves, 2) require that containment isolation valves not tested quarterly during reactor operation be tested during the next refueling outage, and 3) require an air flow test of all containment spray nozzles every 10 years, vice every 5 years.

This amendment also modifies TS 4.6.8, Emergency Feedvater Pumps, to require quarterly, vice monthly testing of emergency and auxiliary feedwater pumps.

Finally, minor editorial changes are made in TS 4.6. A and B to clarify existing requirements.

A copy of the related Safety Evaluatiori ;s also enclosed.

Notice of Issuance will be included in the Commission's biweekly Federal Reaister Notice.
