Charlevotx MI 49720 November 15, 1993 Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-155 - LICENSE DPR BIG ROCK POINT PLANT - UPDATE OF LICENSEE ACTIONS TAKEN TO ADDRESS THE NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION ASSESSMENT OF THE BIG ROCK POINT'S EMERGENCY CONDENSER AND MAIN STEAM ISOLATION VALVES DATED SEPTEMBER 21, 1993.
On September 21, 1993, Big Rock Point submitted an additional response to a request for additional information with regards to'a NRC assessment of Big Rock Point's emergency condenser and main steam isolation valves dated June 29, 1993. In a previous submittal dated August 12, 1993, five out of seven actions requested by the NRC were addressed, and the remaining two actions recommending changes to current operating / emergency procedures and probable valve position indication were to be addressed by November 15, 1993. The.
purpose of this letter is to advise the NRC to the current status of these recommended actions.
EMERGENCY CONDENSER INLET ISOLATION VALVES MO 7052 AND MO 7062 A revision cautioning that "should the torque switch prematurely trip, the MOVs may need to be resignaled by the operator to close" was added to Standard-Operating Procedure 6 - Emergency Condenser System. This action was completed within the 45 days requested by the previous September 21, 1993.
MAIN STEAM ISOLATION VALVE (MSIV) MO 7050.
Within the September 21, 1993 letter, the Big Rock Point staff proposed to revise Standard Operating Procedure 10, Containment Vessel, to caution against premature attempts to close.the MSIV prior to differential pressure being within the capability of the MSIV. However, after a cursory review of the procedure revision, the Big Rock-Point staff has concluded that the subject requires _ a more in-depth review to insure that the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation / Mechanical Engineering Branch concerns are properly addressed.
