. SUBJECT: COMBINED INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-220/93-13 AND 50-410/93-13
This letter transmits the NRC Region I inspection report for the routine, announced
engineering and technical support inspection conducted by Mr. R. J. Nolino of this office,
from August 2-6,1993, at the Niagara Mohawk Salina Meadows ofaa in Syracuse,
New York, and the Nine Mile Point Units 1 & 2, located in Scriba, New York. Mr. Paolino
discussed the inspection findings with Messrs. Wm. Yeager (Unit 1), K. Ward (Unit 2), and
other members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
The inspection was directed toward areas important to public health and safety. Areas
examined during the inspection are described in the NRC inspection report, which is
enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective
examination of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and

observations by the inspectors.
Based on the results of this inspection, the engineering and technical support activities
appeared to be effective and of good quality. We note that progress is being made in

L reducing the D/ER backlog and significant reductions in the number of T-Mods in service.
