SUBJECT:
0YSTER CREEK LETTER ON USE OF DECOMMISSIONING FUNDS By letter dated September 10, 1993, GPU Nuclear Corporation (GPUN) informed the Commission of its intent to dismantle and dispose of radioactively contaminated tanks, pipe, and miscellaneous components that formed a part of the equipment in the Old Radwaste Building at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station.
While we have no objections to the proposed dismantlement and disposal of the contaminated materials, we are concerned with the proposed use of decommissioning trust funds for this program. We request that GPUN not use decommissioning trust funds for this purpose until the matter has been evaluated by the Commission as a policy matter.
We will provide you with the results of our review when complete. We expect to be able to provide you with this information by the end of calendar year 1993.
