Res.cription_of_ Condition

{

On September 3, 1993, with Unit 1 in Mode 5 coming out of the Cycle 6 refueling outage, and Unit 2 in Mode 5 for a maintenance outage, Limiting Condition for Operation (LCO) 3.7.12 was entered. i During fire barrier and barrier penetration inspections and evaluations being performed in conjunction with the fire protection improvement plan, several deficient conditions were identified with the drop ceiling over the unit operator working and living area on Elevation 732.0 of the control building. This area is considered part of the operator habitability zone. However, the design drawings denote the drop ceiling as being a 1 1/2-hour rated. fire barrier; therefore, the penetrations  ;

through the fire barrier have to be adequately sealed with a '

fire-resistant substance equivalent to or greater than that of the ceiling. Several penetrations were identified that were not adequately sealed to this requirement.

The fire barrier was not reestablished, i.e., penetrations were not returned to the designed configuration, within the allowable technical specification (TS) timeframe. This condition is being reported in accordance with TS Action Statement 3.7.12.a.

Carrective Action In accordance with LCO 3.7.12 Action Statement (a), the fire detectors on i one side of the nonfunctional fire barrier we:e verified operable; roving '

fire watches were established. The fire watches will be maintained until -

the fire barrier is returned to the design configuration. The ceiling is  !

expected to be returned to the design configuration by November 1,1993.
