Subject:

Catawba Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414 NRC Bulletin 93-02, Debris Plugging of Emergency Core Cooling Suction Strainers Supplemental Response By Duke Power Company supplemental response dated September 16,1993, Catawba Nuclear Station described compensatory measures to be implemented on Unit 2 to reduce the probability for debris plugging of the ECCS Suction Strainers. The implementation of these compensatory measures were to be in effect by October 30,1993, and remain in effect until the removal of the Containment Air Charcoal Filter Units (CACFUs) from Unit 2 containment.

This supplemental response serves as notice that the CACFU pre-filters and high efficiency particulate adsorbers (HEPAs) were removed from Unit 2 containment on September 25,1993, during a Unit 2 forced outage. Accordingly, the planned compensatory measures which were to be in effect by October 30, 1993, have been canceled. Work orders to remove the Unit 1 CACFU pre-filters and HEPA filters during the next forced / refueling outage remain in place.

I declare under penalties of perjury that the statements set forth herein are true and correct to the best of my knowledge.
