Docket No.50-029 September 27, 1993 Mr. Fred Katz Citizens Awareness Network P.O. Box 83 j
Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts 01370
Dear Mr. Katz:
I am addressing this letter to you as you were the chief spokesperson for the
)
Citizens Awareness Network (CAN) during our conference call of August 4, 1993.
That conference call was'a supplement to the June 9,1993 public meeting in Buckland, Massachusetts, in which you and other members'of the public i
participated. We are enclosing a copy of the transcript of the conference call for your use; a copy will also be placed in the Greenfield Community College NRC local public document room.
Our preliminary review of the transcript has revealed no new pertinent information identified by CAN during the August 4,1993 conference call that i
l would cause us to' reconsider our previous decision not to object to the Yankee i
1 early component removal activities, and as a consequence we do not intend to order Yankee to terminate the early component removal program. Our positions l
were previously stated in NRC letters dated April 16 and July 15, 1993; these l
letters dealt with the use of decommissioning trust funds and component l
removal activities prior to decommissioning plan approval, copies of which l
were sent to CAN. We are-continuing our review of the issues CAN brought up i
during the August 4 conference call and we will provide responses.
During the August 4 conference call CAN requested a hearing regarding the component removal program. As discussed in our telephone call of September 1, 1993, you were advised to contact the Secretary of the Commission, in writing, with such a request.
By letter dated September 8, 1993, CAN submitted a request for such a hearing. Your letter is under review by the. Commission and you will receive a separate response to your hearing request.
Sincerely, Original signed by:
