" - icu g September 24, 1993 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Mail Stop P1-137 Washington, D. C. 20555 Gentlemen: ULNRC-2856 DOCKET NUMBER 50-483 CALLAWAY PLANT 1992 SEMIANNUAL RADIOACTIVE EFFLUENT RELEASE REPORTS ERRATA During June 1992 it was noted that several sequential noble gas samples collected during April showed an unusually high activity. An investigation was initiated to evaluate the cause for this occurrence. The subsequent investigation determined that the noble gas activity was due to the samples being collected in a marinelli that was contaminated by a waste gas decay tank sample. The investigation was completed after the submittal dates for the 1992 Semiannual Radioactive Effluent Release Reports and the activity associated with the contaminated marinelli was included in these reports.

The following corrective actions were implemented to prevent recurrence of this event.

1) Guidelines were developed for controlling contaminated marinellis.
2) The computer software used for generating gaseous release permits was revised to incorporate a noble gas concentration-limit setpoint.
3) The gaseous release permit checklist was revised to require verification of the sample concentration to the monitor trend prior to allowing the release.
4) The Health Physics Technicians were trained on the incident and corrective actions taken to prevent recurrence.
