MEETING

SUMMARY

REGARDING THE JULY 29, 1993, MEETING TO DISCUSS ENGINEERING PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES - CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR-POWER i PLANT, UNIT 1 AND UNIT 2 PURPOSE:  !

In September of 1992, Mr. Charles Cruse, Nuclear Engineering Department Manager, was promoted to the position of General Plant Manager at the Calvert Cliffs site. Mr. Cruse was succeeded by Mr. Peter Katz as Manager of the .

Nuclear Engineering Department. The meeting was convened to provide Mr. Katz the opportunity to discuss the programs and activities of the Nuclear i Engineering Department with members of the Division of Reactor Projects -

I/II, Office of Nuclear Reactor ~ Regulation. Mr. Peter Chabot, Superintendent-Technical Support (Mr. Katz' former position) also discussed his unit's activities and its interaction with the Nuclear Engineering Department.-

The meeting was held in the NRC One White Flint North Office in Rockville, Maryland. A list of attendees is attached as Enclosure 1 and the reference material provided by BG&E is attached as Enclosure 2.

An outline of the presentation is included as part of Enclosure 2. An overview of the organizational structure at the Calvert Cliffs site was provided which included details of the responsibilities and interaction of the operations staff with both the Technical Support and Nuclear Engineering Department staffs. Mr. Katz stressed that one of the primary goals' emphasized at the site is safe event-free operation which results in a decrease in challenges and an overall increase in system availability. Personnel activities and training, selected programs, and the material condition of i various systems were discussed as outlined in Enclosure 2.
